Author Guidelines

Restitution Law Review is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published on a bi-annual basis by Marenex Press. The journal invites original and high-quality scholarly submissions that advance research and critical understanding in the fields of restitution, unjust enrichment, remedies, and closely related areas of private law. Contributions may adopt doctrinal, comparative, theoretical, or interdisciplinary approaches. All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere at the time of submission.

Manuscripts should be written in clear, formal academic English and demonstrate analytical rigor, coherence, and engagement with relevant legal scholarship. Full-length research articles should ordinarily be between 6,000 and 10,000 words, inclusive of footnotes. Shorter submissions, such as case notes, legislative comments, or review essays, may be considered where they offer significant scholarly value. Each manuscript must include an abstract of approximately 150–200 words and 4–6 relevant keywords. To ensure the integrity of the double-blind peer review process, authors must ensure that manuscripts are fully anonymized, with no identifying information included in the main text or footnotes.

All submissions should follow a consistent and recognized legal citation style. Footnotes must be used for references, and authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all citations, quotations, and factual assertions. Where submissions involve jurisdiction-specific analysis, the relevant legal system(s) must be clearly identified. Comparative contributions should present balanced and well-substantiated analysis across the jurisdictions discussed.

Each submission undergoes an initial editorial screening to assess its relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, and compliance with these guidelines. Manuscripts that pass this stage are subject to a rigorous double-blind peer review process conducted by independent experts. Editorial decisions are based solely on academic merit and reviewer evaluations and may include acceptance, acceptance subject to revisions, invitation to revise and resubmit, or rejection. The editorial team reserves the right to make minor stylistic or formatting changes to accepted manuscripts to ensure consistency and clarity, without altering the substantive content.

The journal adheres strictly to accepted standards of publication ethics. Submissions must be free from plagiarism, duplicate publication, and unethical research practices. Any use of artificial intelligence tools must be limited to language editing or technical assistance and must not substitute for the author’s original scholarly reasoning or analysis. Authors are fully responsible for the integrity, originality, and ethical compliance of their work and must disclose any potential conflicts of interest at the time of submission.

Restitution Law Review operates under an open-access publishing model to promote unrestricted access to legal scholarship. All published articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) License. The copyright of all published content is held by the journal. By submitting a manuscript, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and the right to distribute the work in all forms and media, including digital platforms and archival systems.

An Article Processing Charge (APC) of GBP 600 is payable upon acceptance of a manuscript. The APC covers editorial processing, peer review administration, production, online hosting, and long-term digital preservation. No submission fee is charged, and the payment of the APC has no influence on editorial or peer review decisions.

Manuscripts must be submitted through the official journal website at https://restitutionlawreview.co.uk in accordance with the instructions provided therein. Authors are strongly encouraged to carefully review these guidelines prior to submission, as manuscripts that do not comply may be returned for revision before being considered for review.
