Abstract

Rapid development has changed the structure and function of urban transportation systems in big ways. This has put more stress on road networks and made it harder to handle traffic. As the population keeps going up, cities keep growing, and more people buy cars, the demand for transportation often exceeds the capacity of the roads that are already in place. This looks at how development affects the performance of the road network and how to best handle traffic jams. To figure out how well urban road networks work, the study looks at important things like traffic volume, road capacity, trip time, and level of service (LOS). It looks at how uncontrolled urban growth, changes in land use, and bad infrastructure development all lead to traffic jams and less efficient networks. The role of bottlenecks, intersections, and mixed traffic situations in worsening congestion levels. Several ways to deal with traffic jams are looked at, such as improving traffic signals, building public transportation networks, using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), charging for congestion, and encouraging people to use forms of transportation that do not involve cars. The study looks at how well these steps work to improve network performance, cut down on delays, and make traffic move better.
