Abstract

To achieve long-lasting and environmentally friendly road construction, it is essential to carefully choose and assess pavement materials. Pavement materials that improve performance while reducing environmental effect are in high demand because to rising concerns about environmental sustainability and the growing need for transportation infrastructure. The purpose of this research is to compare and contrast the strength, durability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of several traditional and non-traditional pavement materials. time-honored materials like cement and bitumen, as well as cutting-edge alternatives like RAP, fly ash, plastic scraps, and other industrial leftovers. Significant performance metrics such load-bearing capacity, resistance to wear and deformation, moisture susceptibility, and long-term durability are evaluated by laboratory and field-based tests. The study takes into account carbon emissions, energy consumption, and resource use while evaluating the environmental impact of pavement materials, in addition to their mechanical performance. To evaluate the long-term viability of various building supplies and methods, one might employ life cycle assessment (LCA). The results show that using materials derived from recycled and trash can greatly increase sustainability while keeping or improving the performance of pavements. In addition to helping with waste management and lowering building costs, these materials also lessen the demand for virgin resources. On the other hand, consistent performance can only be achieved by good design, quality control, and standardization.
