Institutional Mechanisms for Combating Corruption in Public Procurement in Algeria

Abstract

Corruption in the field of public procurement is considered one of the most significant challenges facing contracting authorities, as it leads, on the one hand, to the selection of contractors with poor qualifications and inadequate competence compared to other bidders, and, on the other hand, to the depletion of public funds. To prevent the consequences arising from corruption in public procurement, the Algerian legislator, through the Law on the Prevention and Combating of Corruption, has established a set of institutional mechanisms to combat corruption in this field. These include the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and Combating of Corruption, and the Central Office for the Suppression of Corruption.
